I’m thinking one of numbers 1, 2, or 3. I’ll truthfully answer with “yes” or “no” to *one* question, provided that the question can be so answered. You want to know the number I’m thinking; *what will you ask?*

pfilo(20:01:56) :The problem statement calls for a third state where the question cannot be answered truthfully, like “Is 1/(N-2) positive ?”

rlankine(20:12:23) :I now notice that I have never given the solution to this puzzle so thanks a lot for your comment, pfilo.

Your answer is correct and elegant. However, there are other correct answers as well. My original answer would have been: “I’m thinking of an odd integer. Does the number (1, 2, or 3) that you are thinking divide it exactly?”
